HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET RID OF A COLD?

_

Don’t let the sniffles slow you down! In today’s fast-paced world, you don’t have time for a common cold. Travels for business or pleasure, important events, get-togethers – these are all important occasions that you don’t want to miss out on. That’s why it’s good to know how quickly you can get rid of your pesky common cold.

A regular common cold usually lasts just up to ten days, but it has also been known to stick around for up to three weeks. Common symptoms include a blocked nose, a sore throat, sneezing and coughing.

The flu, however, is typically of sudden onset and is characterised by fever, headache, cough, sore throat, muscle aches, nasal congestion, weakness and loss of appetite. It is more severe than a common cold.

Because you don’t have time to let the sniffles slow you down, here are three helpful measures you can take to help the discomfort of a common cold go away soon:

1) Get rest

Get lots of good rest to recharge your body. The early symptoms of a common cold usually consist of headache, sneezing, chilliness and general discomfort. They can develop quickly and then decline rapidly after one or two days. The later symptoms may be general discomfort, a runny or blocked nose and a cough. These can develop slowly over several days and may stick around for one week after infection. So the best thing is to stay at home during this time and take extra care of yourself.

2) Drink fluids

To fight off a common cold, make sure you get plenty of liquids in your body – such as water, warm herbal tea and even hot soup. They help to thin secretions and soothe the respiratory mucosa – and they also feel good on your sore throat.

3) Use nasal spray

Finally, a good, reliable nasal spray frees up a blocked nose – for instance, Nasivin® 0,05 % nasal decongestant. It comes as a metered spray, regular spray or drops. Nasivion® 0,05 % provides first-time relief in just 25 seconds1. When used as instructed, you can even recover from your rhinitis up to two days sooner1.

With tender loving care, the right nasal spray and a few good tips and home remedies, you’ll  hopefully be back on your feet again soon.

1In a prospective, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, Nasivion® 0,05 % demonstrated a statistically significant reducing of the duration of acute rhinitis by 2 days as compared to normal saline solution. Reinecke S, Tschaikin M. Investigation of the Effect of Oxymetazoline on the Duration of Rhinitis. MMW - Fortschr Med. 2005;147(3):113-118.

DID YOU KNOW?

Before the invention of modern cold treatments, in England sick people cooked up a concoction of linseed, raisins, liquorice, sugar candy, rum and white wine vinegar with the hope of getting better sooner.
